I.        PURPOSE.

To provide a uniform basis to recruit, select, and appoint applicants to fill vacant positions within the Office of the Orange County Tax Collector.

II.       POLICY.

The Orange County Tax Collector promotes the hiring of individuals without regard to age, race, color, sex, religion, national origin, political affiliations, marital or veteran status, or the presence of a medical condition or handicap (except when such requirement constitutes an indubitable occupational qualification necessary to perform the tasks associated with the position), or any other legally protected status.

The selection of individuals to fill a vacant position will be made from the most qualified available applicant. The Tax Collector, as an elected Constitutional Officer, retains the right to make personnel changes and decisions deemed necessary to carry out the duties of the office and serve the people of Orange County.

Individuals must meet the following criteria to be employed by the Orange County Tax Collector's Office:

1. Must meet the minimum qualifications specified in job descriptions
2. Must meet other bona fide preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities including comprehending and communicating in the spoken and written English language.
3. Must be a citizen of the United States or an alien authorized to work in the United States
4. Preference will be given to eligible veterans and spouses of veterans
