Earl K. Wood Greeting

The county seat is known worldwide for the many popular family oriented theme parks,
including Walt Disney World, Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, DISNEY-MGM Studios, Disney's
Animal Kingdom, Sea World, Universal Studios, and Islands of Adventure.
Despite the tremendous growth this area has experienced, our objective is to provide
quality service for each customer in a friendly and personal fashion.
In an effort to continually improve our service, we welcome your suggestions on
the current operation of our office.
While I am not able to respond personally to each of your suggestions or comments,
I will consider each of them. Periodically letters of general interest will be posted
to our feedback page along with my response.
Our goal is to preserve the important traditions of the past as we move forward
into these changing times.
Biography
Born in Pittsburgh, PA July 25, 1916, Earl K. Wood moved with his family to Orlando
in 1932. He is a graduate of Orlando High School now Howard Middle School. During
World War II he served five years in the US Army, at which time he was deployed
to Germany and France. Upon his return, he married Mary Louise Stallings June 29,
1946.
After working a number of years for Orange County Government, Mr. Wood was elected
Orange County Tax Collector in November, 1964, and took office January 1, 1965.
He is now serving his 11th continuous term. Mr. Wood is a Certified Florida Tax
Collector. In 1981 - 1982 he served as the President of the Florida Tax Collectors,
Inc. Through his years of supporting the association of the Florida Tax Collectors,
Inc., he has served and chaired on various committees.
Active in a number of many civic organizations, Mr. Wood is particularly at home
with Toastmasters International. As an important member of the Conquerors Toastmasters
Club 1066, he has the renowned honor of achieving the Distinguished Toastmaster
Award and has just celebrated his 55th year with the group. The Conquerors Toastmaster
Club 1066 has set up an annual Earl K. Wood Scholarship to be awarded each year
to deserving High School Seniors who excel in public speaking. A longtime active
member of the Bahia Shrine, Masonic Lodge 69 and Scottish Rite, he has spent countless
hours raising funds for the support of the Shrine Hospitals. He served as Captain
of the Bahia Shrine Roadrunner Unit for numerous years, scheduling and performing
in parades throughout Florida. Other affiliations he is active in are the American
Legion Post 19, VFW Post 2093, Orlando Jaycees Colonel, and Elks Lodge BPOE 1079.
He is a lifelong active memberof the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando.
For recreation he enjoys public speaking, fishing, music and dancing, but says his
main interest is and has always been Orange County Government and serving its citizens.
